I'm Howard, and I teach the violin.

 

I'm also a violinist in several ensembles, including leading the second violins in my local community orchestra.

​

While I'm classically trained, I have also studied jazz and improvisation.

 

I encourage my students to explore the tonal and expressive range of the violin, while emphasising the importance of technique.
 

Some of my students enjoy and benefit from the challenge of doing exams and performances, while others thrive on a more flexible curriculum that enable them develop their skills at their own pace.​

My personality is energetic and spontaneous, allowing me to imbue the fun of playing the violin in my students.

 

I am also neurodivergent, and I often work best with students who are likewise neurodivergent.

​

I got my first taste of the violin at the age of eight, and haven't stopped playing since.​ My violin has taken me on adventures around the globe – from appearing in movies and television programs, to playing for politicians and busking in some of the most interesting and peculiar locations.

​

For 10 years, I've worked as a carer for people with disabilities. That has given me a wider perspective and understanding of people and their unique personalities.

​

I have been fortunate to have a musical family. My wife is a piano teacher and we play regularly in gigs together. My mother and great-grandmother played the piano, and my grandfather played the clarinet, saxophone and violin.

​

Outside of music, I can usually be found doing martial arts, reading about philosophy, and playing a bit of computer games.
